The 4 Drishyam locations

1. Georgekutty's house, Vazhithala

A real private home near Thodupuzha, used in all three films; the Drishyam 3 shoot also wrapped there. The pit scene was shot on the plot beside it, also private land.

Visiting: the family lives here, so we give no names, directions or map pin. View it only from the public road.

2. Rajakkad police station (a set)

Is the Drishyam police station real? No. It was a set at Kaippakavala junction in Kudayathoor, near the Malankara reservoir. The site is now reported to be overgrown.

3. The cable TV shop and tea shop: "Drishyam Kavala"

Georgekutty's cable TV shop and the tea shop were sets at the same junction, which locals now call Drishyam Kavala.

4. The climax: near the Malankara reservoir

The first film's climax was shot near the Malankara reservoir.

Drishyam 2: what came back and what was new

Shot from September 21 to November 6, 2020, over 46 days.

  • Returning: the Vazhithala house (renovated) and Kaippakavala junction, where art director Rajeev Kovilakathu rebuilt the street set.
  • New: indoor scenes at Kakkanad in Kochi, plus Thodupuzha, Kanjar and Arakkulam.

Not the same film: the Hindi Drishyam

Goa belongs to the Hindi remake: Drishyam (2015) with Ajay Devgn is set there. Where it was actually shot is unclear, and none of the Goa references apply to Mohanlal's films.

Our take

Drishyam's genius is how ordinary its map is: a house, a junction, a police station a short drive apart. Jeethu Joseph built a thriller out of a small-town radius, and that tightness is why audiences believe Georgekutty could pull it off. A visit today is less about sets, which are mostly gone, and more about feeling how small that world is.

Visiting notes

  1. All Malayalam locations sit in the Thodupuzha area; check a map app for Vazhithala, Kudayathoor and Malankara.
  2. At Kaippakavala expect a junction with a nickname, not a standing set.
  3. At Vazhithala, remember the house is someone's home.
