Prabhu Muralikrishna makes his acting debut as Constable Justin in Eyes, the new Malayalam web series on SonyLIV. Off screen, he is a practising lawyer in Kochi, and the role came after years of auditions that went nowhere.
He spoke about the part in a recent interview. All his remarks below come from that conversation.
From dubbing on Uyare to a role in Eyes
Eyes is Prabhu's first screen role. He knew the team already, having worked as a dubbing artist on Uyare, director Manu Ashokan's 2019 film written by Bobby and Sanjay.
He says he still auditioned for Eyes like everyone else. He first met Sanjay by chance at a wedding. Since then, he sends the writer his acting work for feedback and calls him a mentor.
The audition call came in 2024. When the role was confirmed, he was recovering from knee surgery and got back on his feet in about two and a half months, in time for the 45-day shoot.
Lawyer by day, actor by choice
Prabhu did theatre in school and college and acted in short films after his BA LLB. The film offers did not come during the Covid years, so he began practising law. He still does.
For Justin, he put on weight and lost it again after the shoot. He says many people now struggle to recognise him from the series. Messages about the character keep coming in, and he describes the feeling simply: "I am living my dream now."
Why Eyes matters for Manu Ashokan
Eyes is Manu Ashokan's first web series. It reunites him with Bobby and Sanjay, the writers of his films Uyare and Kaanekkaane. The story is by Anjana Nayar.
The show follows a police team that works to stop stalkers before their obsession turns violent. Kani Kusruti plays the officer who leads the investigation. That premise is what sets it apart from a regular police procedural.
On YouTube, the official trailer on the DreamKatcher channel had 67,242 views when we checked at 7.21 pm on October 13.
