Urvashi plays the title role: a widowed mother, fiercely protective of her daughters, whose life turns after a minor road accident puts her in conflict with Jeemon, played by Joju George. Aishwarya Lekshmi plays her daughter, Anagha. According to the platform's press note, the film is built around the butterfly effect, and Safar Sanal resisted the template of a revenge drama.
Lloyd C Xavier, Zee5's business head for Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, said the platform wants to back stories that challenge perspectives, and called Aasha a film that "refuses to tell audiences what to think".
Joju George, Ramesh Girija and Safar Sanal wrote the screenplay. Madhu Neelakandan shot the film and Shan Mohammed edited it.
How it fared in theatres
Reviewing the theatrical release, The Hindu's S.R. Praveen singled out Urvashi's intense performance but felt the mystery lost steam after a promising first half.
