Athiradi, the multi‑star campus comedy‑drama starring Basil Joseph, Tovino Thomas, Vinith Sreenivasan and Shahn Rahman, has already become one of the biggest Malayalam hits of 2026. Now, adding to its emotional weight is a charming cameo — Tovino’s own son, Tahaan Tovino, playing the younger version of his father’s character, Shri Kuttan, in the newly released “Ammaputhappe” song.
A Hit Film, a Family Moment
The film crossed ₹60 crore in global box‑office collections within 11 days, with Kerala alone contributing over ₹30 crore — making it the year’s fifth Malayalam film to enter the ₹50‑crore club. Against this backdrop of commercial triumph, the makers introduced a flashback sequence that gives audiences a glimpse of Shri Kuttan’s childhood. Tahaan steps into that role, delivering a natural, endearing performance that has already won over fans.
Tovino stated: “Seeing my son on screen is a surreal experience. He’s just a kid, but his energy fits perfectly with the emotional core of the film.”
While child cameos are not new in Malayalam cinema — Dulquer Salmaan’s early appearances alongside Mammootty come to mind — Tahaan’s entry carries a special resonance because it arrives in a film that is already a proven blockbuster. The “Ammaputhappe” song racked up over a million views within hours of release, proving that audiences are as curious about the little star as they are about the film’s record run.
Production & Team
Directed by debutant Arun Anirudhan, Athiradi is produced by Dr. Ananthu Entertainments and Basil Joseph Entertainments. Co‑producers include cinematographer Sameer Tahir and Tovino Thomas himself. The screenplay is co‑written by Paulson Skaria and Arun Aniruddhan. Overseas distribution is handled by Truth Global Films.
With the film already entrenched in theatres and exceeding expectations, Tahaan’s debut becomes a sweet bonus for audiences — a personal touch from the Thomas family that deepens the narrative. Whether he returns for more roles remains to be seen, but for now, the youngest face of Athiradi has made his mark.
