Shamna Kasim has thanked director Nelson, producer Sun Pictures and composer Anirudh for her dance cameo in "Ala Bolelo", the Jailer 2 song she shares with Rajinikanth. She posted the thank-you video on Friday, after the film's October 15 release.

In the video, she said she had long been a Rajinikanth fan and named Padayappa among her favourites. "I must thank Nelson sir a lot, because he pitched me for the song," she said.

Sun Pictures, meanwhile, shared a clip of audiences dancing to the song in a theatre.

A Malayali line-up in one song

Shamna is not the only Malayali in "Ala Bolelo". Suraj Venjaramoodu appears in the number, and so does Rajesh Madhavan, as we reported in our Rajesh Madhavan story.

From Kannur to the South

Shamna, who is from Kannur, made her debut with a small role in Kamal's Malayalam film Manju Poloru Penkutty (2004). Her first major role came in the Telugu film Sri Mahalakshmi (2007), followed by her Tamil debut, Muniyandi Vilangial Moonramandu (2008).

In Tamil and Telugu cinema she is credited as Poorna. She played the lead in the Telugu horror film Avunu (2012) and its sequel Avunu 2 (2015), and played VK Sasikala in the Tamil film Thalaivi (2021).

Dance has stayed central to her work. She runs her own dance studio, which teaches Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi among other styles.
