Suraj Venjaramoodu plays a villain in Jailer 2. He has shared a late-night memory from the set.
He spoke at the Jailer 2 Super Show, the film's pre-release event. The show has streamed on Sun NXT since October 9 and aired on Sun TV on October 11.
What happened on the set
Suraj said he and Rajinikanth shot scenes together until around 2.30 am. Suraj's own shot was next.
Rajinikanth had finished his work and could have left. He stayed back to watch.
At around 2.45 am, the scene ended. Suraj heard clapping and saw Rajinikanth walking towards him.
Vidya Balan, seated beside Rajinikanth, joined in. Others on the set followed.
Suraj said Rajinikanth waiting that late to watch a co-actor was a big source of inspiration for him.
"It was a lifetime moment for me," Suraj said.
He said he had won a National Award, but this felt like winning an Oscar.
Why it matters
Suraj is a National Award winner with a long comic career behind him. In recent years, he has moved into serious and villain roles.
Jailer 2 is one of his biggest outings outside Malayalam. He plays a character named Dileep in the film.
The story also says something about set culture. A lead staying back at that hour to watch a co-actor is rare.
