Yogi Babu

The screen name comes from his first feature. In Yogi (2009), starring Ameer, he played a hopeful actor, and he later took the film's title as part of his own name. Yogi Babu, a Tamil actor and comedian born on 22 July 1985, moved around the country for part of his childhood because his father served in the Indian Army, and he went to school in Jammu in the early 1990s. Before acting he spent two years as an assistant director on the television show Lollu Sabha, helping to write scenes. After small parts in Paiyaa and Kalakalappu, Pattathu Yaanai (2013) handed him his first extended comic role; he was in the Hindi film Chennai Express that year too. Kaaka Muttai and Kirumi brought good reviews in 2015, and 2016 turned things around, with some 20 releases including Aandavan Kattalai. Kolamavu Kokila and Pariyerum Perumal (both 2018) raised his profile further. Dharmaprabhu (2019) was his first lead, and in the satire Mandela (2021) he played the title role. He holds two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and five SIIMA Awards. He was the taxi driver Vimal in Jailer (2023) and returns to the character in Jailer 2 (2026). Mookuthi Amman 2 is due later in 2026, and he appears alongside Saiju Kurup in Harivarasanam, a Malayalam devotional thriller set around Sabarimala.
