Joemon Jyothir is having an unusually eventful few weeks. Fresh off the announcement of Prem Patta — the Aamir Pallikkal campus romance in which he carries the film as lead — he has now landed another starring role in a marquee director’s next project. Vipin Das’ Santhosh Trophy, a comedy that was originally announced with Prithviraj Sukumaran heading its cast, will now have Joemon at the front.
Prithviraj’s exit came down to scheduling conflicts. The film had already completed its pooja, its first-look poster had been released, and Vipin Das had written the script, screenplay, and dialogue himself — the project was well into pre-production when it became clear that Prithviraj’s dates couldn’t be aligned. The team moved quickly and landed on Joemon.
Why Joemon Makes Sense Here
The choice is less of a surprise when you consider how consistently Joemon has delivered within the Vipin Das universe. He was part of the ensemble in Vyasana Sametham Bandhu Mithradikal, where he handled a near-lead role with enough control to be noticed. In Vaazha, he found his footing in a crowded cast. Prem Patta, which introduced him to a wider audience as a genuine lead, reportedly required a significant physical transformation — he lost considerable weight for the role and arrived on set with a new look that drew attention when the first-look poster dropped.

Santhosh Trophy will now extend that momentum directly. Vipin Das is lining up 60 newcomers alongside Joemon in what is shaping up as a large ensemble comedy — a format that suits a director who has shown comfort managing busy frames and character-heavy scripts.
Prithviraj’s absence from Santhosh Trophy does change the scale of the project’s initial pitch. A Prithviraj-led Vipin Das comedy with 60 fresh faces had a particular market appeal. Whether Joemon’s growing profile can carry equivalent commercial weight is the question the film’s eventual release will answer. The groundwork, at least, is already in place — and Joemon, at this point in his career, appears to be exactly where his directors need him to be.
