Three Malayalam films reach theatres this Friday, October 30, led by the 4K and Dolby Atmos re-release of Nayakan, 16 years after it first came out. The makers confirmed the date in an official post from Hy Studioz, and Indrajith Sukumaran shared the official poster, as Cinema Express reported on October 23. Mystery drama Samarasa and comedy thriller Melcow Pondicherry also open the same day.

Nayakan returns in 4K with Dolby Atmos

Lijo Jose Pellissery's debut film Nayakan comes back to the big screen remastered in 4K with a Dolby Atmos mix. The remaster is by Hy Studioz, credited as Hy Studioz and Saptha Records. The re-release had earlier been planned for September 4 but missed that slot.

Written by P.S. Rafeeq and produced by Anoop Johnson Karedan for Illuminato Films, Nayakan stars Indrajith as Varadanunni, a Kathakali artist seeking revenge. Thilakan, Jagathy Sreekumar, Dhanya Mary Varghese and Siddique are part of the cast, among others.

For the re-release, Arun C.S. handled the restoration, Shan Ashif did the colour grading and Harinarayanan did the Atmos mix. Nayakan joins a line of Malayalam re-releases that includes Devadoothan and Chotta Mumbai. Our earlier report on the Nayakan re-release has more on the film's cult status.

Samarasa is a Malayalam mystery drama directed by Baburaj Bhakthapriyam. Ticketing platform District lists the film with a UA13+ certificate.

As reported by Kerala TV, Akhila Nath plays Durga in the film, with Hareesh Peradi also in the cast. The film is reportedly produced under the Sankalpa Frames banner, with Sankalpa Frames Release handling distribution.

Melcow Pondicherry

Melcow Pondicherry is a Malayalam comedy thriller directed by Nikhil Mohan, as listed on District. The cast includes Arjun Ashokan, Althaf Salim, Balu Varghese, Diya Deepan and Motta Rajendran. As reported by Variety India, Sanoop Thykoodam is a co-writer on the film.
