Suriya on Scene: 'no comparison' with Kaakha Kaakha, Singam

At the Dubai event, Suriya asked fans not to measure Scene against his earlier cop films. Here's how DSP Inbaraj stacks up against Anbuselvan and Durai Singam.

Suriya has asked audiences not to compare his new film Scene with his earlier police dramas Kaakha Kaakha and Singam. Speaking at the film's promotional event in Dubai on October 25, he said of the three films: "There is no comparison between these films." Producer Zhagaram Studios shared the full speech on X, and Scene releases worldwide on November 6.

In the same speech, he described Scene as a proper family entertainer, one meant to be watched with the whole family, according to reports of the event. He also said his character in the new film is completely different from those earlier roles, reports said.

Who is DSP Inbaraj?

Suriya plays DSP Inbaraj in Scene. The film's official handle revealed the character name ahead of the Dubai event, where a special glimpse was unveiled.

Three cops, three different films

The comparison comes up because Suriya's two best-known police roles sit at opposite ends.

  • Kaakha Kaakha (2003): he played ACP Anbuselvan, in a film he called a realistic cop story, according to a Tamil transcript of the speech.
  • Singam (2010), Singam II (2013) and Si3 (2017): as Durai Singam, he led a mass, larger-than-life franchise across three films, which he contrasted with Kaakha Kaakha in the same speech, as reported.
  • Scene (2026): DSP Inbaraj, in what he calls a family entertainer, and which he says should not be measured against either.

Seen side by side, the three roles explain his point: one realistic, one larger than life, and a third that he wants judged on its own terms.

The Kerala connection

Scene has a strong Malayalam team behind and in front of the camera.

Director: Jithu Madhavan, in what is reported to be his Tamil debut

Music: Sushin Shyam, reportedly his first Tamil film as composer

Naslen: Naslen plays Eeswaran; reported to be his Tamil debut

Naslen's look was unveiled earlier, as we covered in our Eeswaran first-look story.
