Khalifa director Vysakh reshares fan's note on Prithviraj starrer's box office run after OTT release

The fan's note, which Vysakh shared on his Instagram story, links the film's box office performance to online negativity.

Khalifa director Vysakh has reshared a fan's Instagram note about the Prithviraj Sukumaran starrer on his own story. Reports suggest the fan wrote the note after watching the film on OTT.

What the fan's note on Khalifa says

As reported by both outlets, the note says the film came with big hype but fell short at the box office. The fan attributes this to review bombing, degradation and hatred towards Prithviraj, and also acknowledges that Bethlehem Kudumba Unit was running in theatres at the same time.

The note goes on to describe Khalifa as a mass masala entertainer with plot twists and a slightly old-school feel. These are the fan's views. Vysakh reshared the note as it was and did not add a statement of his own.

Where to watch Khalifa

Khalifa hit theatres as an Onam release. Written and produced by Jinu Abraham, the film is now streaming on six platforms at the same time, including Prime Video, Lionsgate Play, aha and Manorama Max, reports suggest.

Khalifa at a glance

Khalifa released in theatres on August 20, 2026. It is an action thriller with Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead, written and co-produced by Jinu V Abraham.

Vysakh and Prithviraj

Vysakh made his debut as director with the Mammootty film Pokkiri Raja (2010). He went on to make Pulimurugan (2016) with Mohanlal, one of the biggest hits in Malayalam cinema, followed by Madhura Raja (2019), Night Drive and Monster (both 2022), and Turbo (2024) with Mammootty.

Jinu V Abraham has worked with Prithviraj before too. He wrote and directed Adam Joan (2017), and wrote Shaji Kailas's Kaduva (2022), both with Prithviraj in the lead.

Why the reshare stands out

Directors rarely address a film's box office run in public, and Vysakh did not do so here either. By resharing a fan's note without comment, he let the film's OTT audience speak for it. With Khalifa now streaming on six platforms, more viewers are seeing it for the first time, which is the audience the note was written by.
