Neekkam teaser nears 2 million views as Dileep appears to play a journalist in Jagan Shaji Kailas's debut

The teaser of Neekkam is close to two million views on YouTube. Dileep leads the film.

Urvassi Theatres posted the teaser on October 9. When we checked at 7.25 pm IST on October 13, it had 1,999,482 views.

What the teaser shows

Dileep appears in a look unlike his usual roles. The teaser hints that he plays a journalist.

It mixes a crime investigation with emotional moments. The makers keep the main plot points hidden.

The film is billed as an emotional drama thriller.

The background score and the thriller visuals carry most of the teaser. There is little dialogue to give the story away.

Why it matters

Neekkam is Dileep's 152nd film. It is also the first film directed by Jagan Shaji Kailas.

Jagan is the son of director Shaji Kailas, known for big-scale action films. A debut with an established lead raises interest in his style.

The release date is not out yet. A strong teaser response helps the makers pick their slot.

Pen Studios, a Hindi production house, is one of the backers. That brings a national partner to a Malayalam debut.

Dileep's recent work

Dileep has been one of Malayalam cinema's most prolific leads for over two decades. Neekkam is his 152nd film.

He often picks family comedies, so a journalist role in a thriller marks a shift.
