What the Malayalam trailer shows

The Malayalam version opens on Ravana. A narrator describes the age-old war between the devas and asuras, and a flame that rose for the asuras and spread "like a fire-wind" in all ten directions. Its name is Ravana, and under his cruelty the three worlds are crushed. Then Vishnu takes birth as Rama to restore dharma, and Rama vows to find Lanka wherever it is.

The voice-over is fully in Malayalam, which makes it more than a subtitled cut for Kerala audiences.

Yash as Ravana, and Shobana as the Malayalam link

The trailer puts Yash front and centre. Best known as Rocky in the KGF films, he plays Ravana here and is also one of the film's co-producers. Ranbir Kapoor plays Rama, Sai Pallavi plays Sita, and Sunny Deol plays Hanuman.

For Malayali viewers, the familiar face is Shobana. She plays Kaikesi, Ravana's mother. Shobana won the National Award for Best Actress for Manichitrathazhu, and this puts her at the heart of Ravana's side of the story.

The makers' international account also posted a new trailer the same day, promoting the film as coming from "the visual artists behind The Odyssey and Dune".

A crowded start to November

The film opens a day before Suriya's Scene, which is set for November 6, so the first week of November will have two big releases back to back.
